I have found an excellent graphic of the family tree of the world religions - many thanks to Simon E Davies, the creator of this, who has done other wonderful spiritual graphics
There has been much study of each of these, and also of comparative religion – it appears that traces of ideas and names from Sumer and Egypt can be found in the Hebrew Bible, and there has been a lot of cross-fertilisation in the East also. Some people make it their life work to unravel these, but it doesn’t seem a particularly useful direction for most of us. It seems that there was on original Asian language, similar to Sanskrit, and most other languages are derived from this.
On a personal note, I sang in choirs for many years, and I love the sung Catholic Mass, and I generally accept the Nicene Creed (although I think it all works much better in Latin). I also accept the Four Noble Truths of the Buddha.
